SCOPE OF TESTING
HURST METALLURGICAL performs metallurgical testing and evaluation to the various ASTM, AMS, ASME, AWS, Military and other industry recognized standards. The following is a partial listing of the approved services:

Metallurgical Services
Failure Investigation: Wreckage analysis, visual inspection, fractographic evaluation, fracture mode determination, examination of metallographic sections, tensile, impact, and hardness testing, data analysis and technical report preparation.

Metallographic Evaluation: Microstructural analysis of: carbon and alloy steels, cast irons, titanium alloys, copper alloys, nickel base alloys, stainless steels, aluminum alloys fabricated by welding, forging, casting or machining.

Testing/evaluation for: microstructure of graphite in cast iron, grain size, discontinuities/defects, inclusion content/microcleanliness, coating thickness, case depth, decarburization/case-carburization, intergranular attack, microetch, and macroetch.

Inspection: Surface condition evaluation of materials affected by design, manufacturing, and/or service.

Mechanical Testing
Weld Evaluation: Weld inspection, welding and brazing procedure qualification testing, tensile, bend, impact, and hardness testing.

Quality Control Testing: Tensile/tension, compression, hardness (Brinell, Rockwell, Vickers, Knoop). Shear and Charpy V-notch impact testing.

Chemical Analysis / Alloy Identification
OES analysis: of carbon and alloy steels, tool steels, austenitic ferritic martensite, and precipitation-hardening stainless steels, brass, bronze, copper alloys, pure aluminum, and aluminum alloys, nickel base alloys and tin/lead alloys.
