ENTRY LEVEL MACHINIST/METAL CUTTING OPERATOR

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Hurst Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Inc. is seeking an entry level Metal Cutting Saw Operator who is hardworking, safety conscious, detail oriented, and willing to learn. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong work ethic and a commitment to precision work.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate manual Bridgeport mill, CNC lathe, metal cutting saws, abrasive saws, belt sanders, and other tools to prepare test specimens from materials such as plates, forgings, and castings.

  • Verify conformance to requirements using measuring devices such as tape measures, calipers, or micrometers.

  • Interpret job orders to determine sawing parameters based on material types.

  • Machine and prepare test specimens/parts using manual mill, CNC and manual lathes, belt sander, etc.

  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on machining equipment to ensure reliability and precision.

  • Collaborate with a team member to support the laboratory’s testing operations.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • No prior experience required, but familiarity with saws, similar equipment, or manufacturing/assembly environments is preferred.

  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions in English.

  • Mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance on equipment.

  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs unassisted.

  • Comfortable working with metal cutting saws, belt sanders, and hand tools.

  • Punctual, reliable, and committed to safety and quality.

  • Must pass a drug test as part of the hiring process.
